USGS MODELING PROJECT
CHAMBERS AND CLOVER CREEK BASIN MODELING PROJECT: The joint efforts of United States Geological Survey (USGS), Pierce Conservation District, Washington Department of Ecology (DOE), Pierce County Water Programs, and water utilities continue to make progress on the development of a hydrological model of the Chambers/Clover Creek watershed. The work has expanded to include the area from the Nisqually to Puyallup rivers and Puget Sound to the mountain bedrock. This five year effort will provide vital information on how streams, lakes, wells, storm water, land use, and potential climate change react to each other. The information will then benefit people and fish. The $1,130,000 required for the project is being provided by the USGS ($509,000) with the matching and additional funds ($521,000) being provided by Pierce Conservation District, Pierce County Water Programs, DOE, and water utilities – including Spanaway Water Company. This important project will be used for 50 or more years and is essential to the future of Pierce County.
